Drive times are from our farmstead in Nižné Malatíny. We're roughly in the middle of Liptov, between Ružomberok and Liptovský Mikuláš, so most places are within 40 minutes by car.
Hiking and views
1. Veľký Choč
The best view of Liptov. From Lúčky on the red trail, 970 metres of ascent, 2 to 3 hours up. In detail: Veľký Choč from Lúčky. 15 min by car.
2. The Prosiecka valley
A canyon with the Vráta rock gate and ladders beside the 15-metre Červené piesky waterfall. 25 min by car.
3. The Kvačianska valley and the Oblazy mills
The Prosiecka valley's calmer neighbour, with old wooden mills. The two can be joined into a full-day loop.
4. The Magurka Golden Trail
An 8.4 km loop from the old mining settlement of Magurka to the main ridge of the Low Tatras, with 11 stops and gold panning. How to get there. 30 min by car.
5. Chopok and Ďumbier
By cable car from Jasná up Chopok, then along the red ridge trail to Ďumbier (2,043 m), the highest peak of the Low Tatras. 40 min by car.
6. Vrbické pleso
A glacial lake below Chopok with an easy path around it. Ideal when the ridge is in the clouds.
7. Liptov Castle above Kalameny
A ruin first mentioned in 1262, with a view over the basin. Combine it with a dip in Kalameny.
Water and warm bathing
8. Gino Paradise Bešeňová
A thermal park with geothermal water up to 39 °C and pools both indoors and outdoors. 15 min by car.
9. Tatralandia aquapark
Slides and a covered tropical section that works even when it rains. Near Liptovský Mikuláš. 20 min by car.
10. The Kalameny hot-spring pond
A natural pond at around 33 °C, free to bathe in. In the snow it's an unforgettable experience. Practical info. 15 min by car.
11. The Lúčky waterfall
A twelve-metre travertine cascade in the middle of the village of Lúčky. Half an hour is enough to see it.
12. The beach at Liptovský Trnovec and the catamaran
The main beach on Liptovská Mara, with lifeguards, and an hour-long catamaran trip. 25 min by car.
13. Cycling around Liptovská Mara

Culture, villages and caves
14. Vlkolínec
A village of 45 log houses on the UNESCO list since 1993. The nicest way there is by chairlift up Malinô Brdo and on foot. Route and visiting etiquette. 25 min by car.
15. The wooden church in Svätý Kríž
An articular church from 1693 holding almost 6,000 people, moved here from a flooded village. One of the largest wooden buildings in Central Europe. 15 min by car.
16. Havránok archaeological open-air museum
A Celtic hillfort above Liptovská Mara with a view over the whole lake.
17. The Museum of the Liptov Village in Pribylina
An open-air museum where houses, a church and a manor house from villages flooded by Liptovská Mara were moved. 40 min by car.
18. The Ľudovít Fulla Gallery in Ružomberok
Colourful canvases by one of the most distinctive Slovak painters of the 20th century. A good plan for a rainy afternoon.
19. Demänovská Cave of Liberty
A 1,020 m route, about an hour, around 6 °C all year. How to combine it with Chopok. 35 min by car.
20. Demänovská Ice Cave
A shorter tour (45 min) with ice 400 to 500 years old and the bones of cave bears.
Active days with kids
21. Mountain carts at Malinô Brdo
Up by chairlift and 5 km down on a mountain cart or off-road scooter, about 20 minutes of riding. 25 min by car.

At the farmstead and in Malatíny
23. Finnish sauna and pool in the yard
After a day out, there's no need to go anywhere. The pool and the games room with billiards, table tennis and table football are free for our guests, and the Finnish sauna is €10 per session.
24. An evening by the fire and in the gazebo
Every cottage has its own gazebo, and the larger cottages have fireplace heating. A Liptov evening doesn't need a programme.
25. The wooden bell tower in Malatíny
Around 1652, a wooden chapel of St Anne and a wooden bell tower were built in Malatíny. After many alterations, the bell tower still stands and makes a nice goal for an evening walk through the village.
